Acknowledging how living organisms are integral and necessary aspects of our existent, during this strand we will ‘Grow Your Own’ living organism.

Using a S.C.O.B.Y * – Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria & Yeasts as our model living organism, this strand will look at Parasitic, Commensal, Mutualistic, Symbiotic and other forms of connected relationships to create an experimental design-based artefact or artwork with this living organism.

We will grow, nurture and culture our S.C.O.B.Y. We will speculate and re-think relationships. We will co-design with our S.C.O.B.Y, and we will create scenarios to think of it as ‘more than’ materials or matter.

Take home your very own easy maintenance S.C.O.B.Y – see how it grows.

* The S.C.O.B.Y came together around 2,000 years, since then it has become a pan global consortium of micro-organisms as it has moved around the world. Scientists, designers, artists and brewers have all worked with this body.
